What To Expect:
Antarctica Travel Tour Highlights
Your Antarctica expedition begins and ends in Punta Arenas, Chile. You will fly to Frei Station where you board your Antarctic cruise ship. The ship is one of the smallest navigating the Antarctic Peninsula, permitting access to bays larger cruise ships must circumvent. With at least twelve expert polar guides on the ship, you also benefit from one of the highest guest-to-guide ratios in the region. From Frei Station you will travel down the Antarctic Peninsula, with twice-daily excursions by Zodiac. Zodiacs are motor-powered inflatable speed boats that allow travelers to disembark the ship and explore the region. In addition to excursions by zodiac, you will have the options of sea kayaking, hiking & snowshoeing, and photographic expeditions. In the kayak you will more intimately encounter the sights and sounds of Antarctica away from the zodiac motors. In the slim, soundless kayaks you will be able to investigate ice formations and come within a stone’s throw of whales, seals and penguins. On foot you will have the opportunity for a range of encounters that may include climbing a volcano rim, hanging out with penguins, enjoying a quiet moment and extraordinary vistas, visiting a Research Station or going for a Polar Plunge. In the evenings you’ll join the other passengers to share stories, photos, hear presentations on the various wildlife species and learn that there are more types of ice than you ever imagined while gazing at the widest and clearest dusk skies on the planet.
