Luxury Travel In Uganda
We believe locking eyes with a 600 lb mountain gorilla in the wild is one of the most awe-inspiring experiences on earth. But although Uganda is home to half of the world’s mountain gorillas, that’s just one reason to go on a Uganda tour. The beauty of Uganda once prompted Winston Churchill to proclaim it “the Pearl of Africa,” and it remains an unspoiled land of wild natural beauty, dense jungles, great mountain ranges, sparkling lakes, and the home to our favorite African resident, the heart-pounding (literally and sentimentally!), mountain gorilla.

Luxury Travel in Uganda is often focused on quests to see the rare, and sadly diminishing mountain gorilla. These charming, and unapologetically curious residents provide guests with many laughs and memories. Witnessing a young adolescent imitate his father by pounding on his chest, laughing as a youngster swings from trees with delight, and being humbled by a majestic silverback is an encounter that truly makes you appreciate these curious and compassionate creatures. We’re proud of our relationships in Uganda, which inevitably enrich our clients’ journeys. We can introduce you to former poachers turned conservationists as well as Dr. Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka, Uganda’s favorite gorilla doctor and founder of Conservation Through Public Health, a nonprofit that aims to protect the gorillas by educating and improving the health care of the local people with whom share a backyard with these incredible species. We’re confident any time spent with Dr. Gladys will provide a compelling look into the plight of the gorillas and will be one of the most memorable moments on your journey.
While gorillas are the main draw, there are also many other primate species to see on Uganda tours, and the southwestern part of the country is considered one of the best places to view chimpanzees in the wild. Just like mountain gorillas, chimps create new “nests” made of leaves each night for sleeping. The elusive chimpanzee can be spotted in an ancient forested gorge near Queen Elizabeth National Park as well as the Ngamba Island Sanctuary, one of the few places on earth where you can have an up-close and personal encounter with chimpanzees. After a few minutes with them, you will have a stronger appreciation for the fact that we share 98.4% DNA with them!
Beyond primates, the country also boasts tree-climbing lions at Queen Elizabeth National Park, lush rainforests in Kibale National Park, and renowned bird watching in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Uganda has no shortage of interesting flora and fauna. Absolute Travel’s private luxury travel to Uganda supports local communities and their cultural heritage with visits to local weaving cooperatives and rural settlements, as well as by contributing to Conservation Through Public Health’s efforts to protect the environment shared by mountain gorillas and the Ugandan people by empowering and strengthening local communities.

Please note: Gorilla trekking is a physically strenuous activity, during which visitors may spend from one to eight hours hiking through dense rainforest in an effort to see gorillas in their natural habitat. A reasonable degree of fitness and stamina is required for any programs that include gorilla trekking.
