Upon arrival in Dakar, you will be met by your guide and the wonderful hospitality of the Sengalese people. Begin touring with the amazing Sandaga market and the following day tour the colonial history of this lively African metropolis. You will get the chance to see the macabre Goree Island as well as sample modern Senegal’s hip music scene in the evening. Continue the next day to St. Louis, another colonial town and visit several sights along the way, including a Fulani village where you will be greeted by the Chief and his wives. After a day discovering Senegal’s rich wildlife at the Djoudj National Bird Sanctuary, set out with your guide for Tambacounda, stopping at the gorgeous and enormous Great Mosque of Touba. The following morning you will have the chance to view some of Senegal’s natural wonders in the Nokolo Koba National Park. The park is home to elands, elephants, and chimpanzees among other incredible creatures. Continue to Georgetown in the Gambia, which is home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Wassu Stone Circles. The thousands of enormous stones are strewn throughout the area in circular formations making them incredibly interesting to see. Spend the next few days discovering both the past and present of the Gambia. Continue on to coastal Senegal for a few days of touring and leisurely taking in the West African sun.
