What To Expect:
Wild West Travel Tour Highlights
Begin in the small western town of Fort Benton, where you will rediscover a bit of frontier history and stay at the historic Grand Union Inn. Next, channel Lewis & Clark as your adventure takes you to the Missouri River on a two-day float down the serene waterway with overnights in well-appointed tents complete with bonfires, stories, and striking natural scenery. Continue to the American Prairie Reserve and America’s version of the Serengeti for two nights! In the spring, bison calves romp in the vibrant green and gold of nature. The summer is the season of blooming prairie wildflowers and energetic pronghorn fawns and prairie dog pups poking out of their burrows. You may even witness the power of nature sweep across the sky delivering beauty in the form of storms and never-ending rainbows. And in fall, witness the golden cottonwoods form the backdrop for one of nature’s greatest wildlife spectacles as hundreds of elk engage in their mating ritual. The soft autumn light is ideal for photographing wildlife as prairie creatures gather up in awe-inspiring groups for their annual migrations. Your stay at American Prairie Reserve’s Kestrel Camp is your chance to connect with something larger than yourself. This is truly one of our country’s greatest conservation projects—a link to the natural world on a scale that we haven’t experienced since the 19th century, and a chance to help recreate and restore the largest wildlife reserve in the lower forty-eight states. Learn firsthand the sense of discovery that Lewis & Clark encountered during their expedition across these uncharted lands centuries ago. Your days at Kestrel Camp will allow you to access the American west’s wild spirit and discover tales of wildlife, geology, and thousands of years of human history. Kestrel Camp is your base during your days on the vast prairie plains, where you can discover the transformative power of the natural world from wildlife guides, naturalists, scientists and knowledgeable locals. Kestrel Camp consists of five high-end yurts, which were designed to bring the outdoors in. Details like air-conditioning, warm showers, and plush linens ensure complete comfort, but they were careful not to miss the true touches like awakening to the sound of meadowlarks from your veranda, and sweeping views of the golden plains. Kestrel Camp provides an idyllic setting to soak up the power of this magical corner of our country.
