We invite our travelers to meet one of our favorite conservationist, who is also Uganda’s first female veterinarian and founder of Conservation Through Public Health: Dr. Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka. We are big fans of Conservation Through Public Health, a Ugandan organization that aims to protect mountain gorillas by improving the primary healthcare for the local people in and around Africa’s protected areas (almost a 98% DNA match means diseases can easily spread between us). We believe this is a smart approach, as the heartbeat of gorilla conservation is rooted in earning the support of the local communities that share a backyard with these critically endangered animals.
* Please note that a visit with Dr. Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka is dependent on her schedule. If she is not at her field office during your visit, we are happy to organize a tour of the field office with the other conservationists on staff.
