Alila Jabal Akhdar
Set 2,000 meters above sea level in the Jabal Ajhdar or “Green Mountain” stretch of Oman’s Al Hajar mountain range is Alila Jabal Akhdar. The region is a rugged fanfare of ragged cliffs and plummeting gorges. The refined Alila Jabal Akhdar appears to be in perfect contrast to this untamed landscape, yet every element from the architecture to the irrigation system was designed to be in harmony with this fragile ecosystem. The goal was to design an eco-conscious property inspired by the great forts and signature details of Omani architecture. In order to avoid introducing foreign elements to the land, the structure was built from stone gathered in the area. There are heavy wooden fort doors that open to rooms filled with copper hanging lanterns, walls stenciled with damask roses, timber floors and stonewashed ceilings. Visit forgotten hamlets, uninhabited villages, and secret caves and canyons in the surrounding mountains. Then return to the comforts of a mind and body spa, the rich Arabic dishes of Juniper Restaurant, and your sprawling suite at Alila Jabal Akhdar.
