Boca del Toro | Sweet Bocas
*Please note Sweet Bocas is an exclusive-use property and does not reserve individual rooms. The vision of former Montreal Restaurateur Annick Belanger, Sweet Bocas is an homage to nature, sustainability, relaxation, and style. The ultra-exclusive villa (travelers must take over the entire property in order to stay here) is built on pilings right out in the protected waters bordering Bocas del Toro nature reserve. You can snorkel off all sides of the Panamanian teak deck, crack open fresh coconuts that fall on the shore, and sleep with your windows wide-open to feel and hear the Caribbean. Possibility is at your fingertips: paddle board alongside wild dolphins, watch sea turtles nesting, swim with glowing schools of fish, spearfish by the light of the moon, learn about the organic hanging garden, and hike through the rainforest to giant bat caves. What’s more, you never have to see another soul if you so choose—except maybe the private chef, yoga instructor, and concierge you’ll have on hand. When you go, you have the whole place to yourself. Always. It really doesn’t get much sweeter than that (pun intended). You may be luxuriating in solitude, but Sweet Bocas spares nothing by way of creature comforts. Macramé hammocks hang in all the right corners, flashes of turquoise, orange, and royal blue pop against the teak, sheer oversized curtains flutter in the breeze, and playful touches like woven chairs with scrolled backs and embroidered pillows made by local women make Sweet Bocas a photographic darling. There’s also a state-of-the-art chef’s kitchen complete with espresso bar and even Wi-Fi when needed.
