Gangtey Goenpa Lodge
The moment we arrived at Gangtey Goenpa Lodge we felt both right at home and in awe. Floating amongst the clouds, Gangtey Goenpa Lodge is a hidden gem with a surprisingly chic and sexy vibe. In designing the interiors architect Mary Lou Thomson drew inspiration from the natural beauty of the Himalayas and traditional Bhutanese farmhouses for a modern-rustic vibe. There are stone floors and walls, dark wooden beams and local woven fabrics in earthy hues throughout. Every detail is stunning, but the real show-stoppers are the generous floor-to-ceiling windows offering views of the bucolic Phobjikha Valley. We could easily spend months on end cozied-up with a blanket and warm drink on the elevated wraparound slate verandah taking in the startling scenery; soaking in our exposed tub surrounding by windows and sunshine; or nestled deep in a plush leather sofa around one of the two roaring fireplaces, sharing our day’s adventures. Not to mention indulging in the hearty, flavorful, slow-cooked Bhutanese meals.
