Aman operates five lodges in Bhutan; the largest is in Paro but there are smaller lodges in Thimphu, Bumthang, Gangtay and Punakha. The Amankora lodges are built in traditional style and many of them feature natural rammed-earth walls, gently sloping roofs and wood-paneled interiors with king-size beds, traditional bukhari wood burning stoves, and large terrazzo bathtubs.
The design and approach of each lodge is meant to showcase the advantages of its location: in Gangtay, the view of the valley allows guests to spot the rare black-necked cranes that live there and guests at the Punakha lodge can dine in a farmhouse that once belonged to the queen mother. Periodically, guest speakers will visit the lodges to share insight and background with guests. The small size of the properties and the many thoughtful small touches make staying here a very special experience.
