The Peninsula Shanghai wows visitors with its Art Deco elegance, superb service, and breathtaking views of the Huangpu River, the historic Bund, and the gardens of the former British Consulate. And of course we loved seeing that signature Rolls Royce in the driveway, a trademark of their sister property in Hong Kong. Located on a historic section of the Bund, the 10-story building and the 235 guest rooms ooze with luxury, reflecting on a time when Shanghai was truly the Paris of the East.
Architect David Beer and interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon have created a beautiful and understated space with beautiful lobby for bites or afternoon tea (complete with a string quartet), five restaurants, a stunning spa, an 80-foot-long pool and every 21st century amenity you can think of. It’s a wonderful property and a excellent base to explore the culture, history, and shopping of Shanghai. This property certainly deserves to be the first new building on The Bund in sixty years!
