Human Rights Watch
Human Rights Watch defends the rights of people worldwide. They scrupulously investigate abuses, expose the facts widely, and pressure those with power to respect rights and secure justice. Human Rights Watch is an independent, international organization that works as part of a vibrant movement to uphold human dignity and advance the cause of human rights for all.
In 2014, Absolute Travel worked with Human Rights Watch to send a group of HRW’s prestigious board members and donors to Burma. The goal was to highlight and discuss the organization’s important local work. Leslie Overton, Managing Director of AT, believes “it can be hard to ask people to care about issues that are far away and not part of their everyday experience. There is a big difference between looking at pictures of people in trouble—orphans in Africa, child brides in India—but going to these places and seeing the issues firsthand is really immersive. With Human Rights Watch, the issues they cover are personal and private things that can be not only hard to talk about, but hard to wrap your head around. But when you meet individuals who deal with these issues every day and learn how they have overcome immense obstacles, it is inspiring in a way no photograph could convey. Absolute Travel is proud to help this incredible organization facilitate these experiences.”
Liba Beyer, Director of Outreach and Public Advocacy with HRW, says “without the partnership with Absolute Travel, a trip of this magnitude and quality would have never happened. [By working with AT] we felt completely secure and reassured that all of the logistics were taken care of and executed perfectly so that we were able to focus on our supporters and key stakeholders to ensure their experience was rich and meaningful.”
