Zambia Village Visit

ZAMBIAN VILLAGE VISIT
One of the activities we recommend to clients heading to Zambia is a visit to the Kawaza Village in the Nsefu area. Unlike some uncomfortable "traditional village" tourist traps that seem to exploit residents more than help them, Kawaza villagers have total control over the project. In fact, they embrace it as an opportunity to exchange ideas and share their culture on their own terms - all income from the project goes back to the village. Visitors eat local dishes, see village landmarks, spend time with schoolchildren and a local healer, and participate in activities like grinding maize; if they wish to spend the night, they sleep in traditional huts. Our Africa travelers come back raving about the experience, which adds a welcome local cultural element to a traditional safari. A visit to Kawaza can be incorporated into any Zambia itinerary – discuss the options with your Absolute Travel specialist.

Photos from Sasha's trip to Morocco"TURTLE TIME!"
My recent adventure in Borneo had one very memorable highlight: watching giant sea turtles lay their eggs! To see this miraculous event, I spent the night at Selingan Island, a 30-year-old marine sanctuary for breeding green and hawksbill turtles. As evening fell, the sharp toot of the park ranger's whistle and excited shouts of "Turtle time!" alerted us that the moment was at hand! Enormous turtles had waddled ashore and were using their flippers to dig body pits in the sand. Once the mothers were comfortable, we quietly watched as they laid golfball-shaped eggs at intervals, three to four eggs each time; when they had finished, the park ranger carefully transferred more than 70 eggs into a safe haven for monitoring. The evening concluded when we watched recently-hatched baby turtles take their first dip in the ocean. I will never forget the image of so many baby turtles excitedly racing for the water as we cheered them on enthusiastically. I highly recommend this magical once-in-a-lifetime travel experience for any visitor to Malaysia!

TOP END, DOWN UNDER
Are you familiar with Australia's Top End? It's the uppermost section of Australia's Northern Territory, and it has a dramatic landscape (think sweeping floodplains, red rock cliffs, waterfalls, and billabongs) and a rich Aboriginal culture illustrated in the many rock art paintings that dot the canyons. From a base at the luxurious, brand-new Bamurru Plains, we recommend at least 3 days to fully explore the Kakadu National Park and the Aboriginal region known as Arnhem Land. Incorporate a visit to this hauntingly beautiful area into your Australia itinerary - just remember to watch out for the plentiful crocodiles that slither through the Top End's wet marshes.

Private luxury travel - BangkokRIGHT NOW, WE LOVE: CAVAS WINE LODGE
Agrelo, Argentina
Against the startling backdrop of the Andes Mountains, this boutique property is a perfect base for winetasting in Mendoza. Cavas Wine Lodge has only 14 freestanding adobe villas (each with its own plunge pool, outdoor shower, and private terrace) on a private estate, giving a wonderful sense of space and privacy. The property's wine cave stores the very best Argentinian wines, and guests are encouraged to indulge. During the day, explore the magnificent countryside; in the evening, enjoy the expertly-prepared food, "vinotherapy" spa treatments and, of course, plenty of delicious wine!
