These are some of our favorite things to do in Papua New Guinea. Discuss incorporating some of these ideas into your own travel itinerary.
Visit Mendiis, the provincial capital of the Southern
Highlands, one of the most remote provinces and as a result still largely
undeveloped
travel to Tari to see the spectacular
Tari Basin and stay overnight in one of the villages
of the Huli and Duna Wigmen
visit Mt.
Hagen, capital of the Western Highlands, a
region of alpine meadows and lowland rainforest
attend the
August sing-sing to hear highland tribes compete in performances of ceremonial
dancing and singing
trek through the alpine landscape and glacial lakes
to the summit of Mt. Wilhelm
take a small sailing
vessel along the Sepik River to experience this remote
and beautiful region
sea-kayak along the north
coast to explore the coastal islands, reefs and villages between Malolo
and Madang
go diving to see the vivid
coral reefs and sunken wrecks of WWII ships, submarines,
and aircraft
visit the Trobriand Islands to
see how different the residents, customs, arts, and social systems are from
the rest of Papua New Guinea.
