| This program highlights Morocco’s uniquely elegant style, which has been the source of endless inspiration for the design world. Known for its colorful tiled courtyards, which are often enlivened with fountains, vines and potted plants, Morocco’s architecture is a joy to the senses. Arrive in the bustling modern city of Casablanca and drive through rolling farmland to Marrakech, one of the world’s most stylish cities. Start with two introductory nights here, touring the city’s finest museums and monuments while staying in of the city’s many elegant riads. Marrakech’s riads are the center of the country’s current artistic renaissance, where traditional woodcarving, mosaic work, and plaster work are being practiced to a very high standard. Next, drive south over the Atlas Mountains, past goat herders’ villages and trading posts, to Skoura. Visit the kasbahs built by tribes who grew wealthy over centuries of trade, as caravans journeyed north from the Sahara en route to Marrakech and Fes. Your base for exploring the “Land of 1000 Kasbahs” will be the beautifully restored Kasbah Dar Ahlam. Return to Marrakech to further explore its hidden treasures and also stroll through the weekly souks of the Berber villages in the Ourika Valley, just outside of Marrakech. Conclude the trip with three nights in Fes, taking in the incredible array of traditional handi-craft souks and workshops, the dense medina, and the city’s museums. | |||
