Land-locked Mali is a jewel of West Africa, with a rich history and a vibrant culture that will surprise and delight travelers who may think they’ve seen it all. Mali’s capital, Bamako, is a thriving city with an excellent local music and nightlife scene. In Djenne, travelers will marvel at the world’s largest mud-building, the Grand Mosque, which is more elegant than it sounds and definitely rates as a must-see for any Mali visitor. In the central plateau region lies the Bandiagara Escarpment, home to the Dogon people; the Dogon are well known for their mythology, wooden sculpture, and architecture. Finally, visitors to Mali can add Timbuktu to their “been there, done that” list – a major draw, since Timbuktu is certainly a feather in the cap of any respectable world traveler! Costs valid through December 31, 2008; holiday and peak season surcharges may apply.
