| This tour provides a comprehensive overview of the major cultural and historical sights that so beautifully illustrate the splendor of Japan’s history. Begin in Tokyo, staying at one of the city’s most exclusive new hotels: the Four Seasons Marunouchi. On private tours, visit the National Museum in Ueno Park, the traditional Shitamachi district, and the Meiji-shrine, set in a beautiful forest near trendy Harajuku. Enjoy leisure time in Tokyo before departing for the ancient capital of Kamakura, one of the most beautiful and historic areas near Tokyo. The region is dotted with hundreds of Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines, each with their own fascinating history. Continue to the Hakone area near Mt. Fuji. Arrive at the Gora Kadan Ryokan, one of the most exquisite retreats in the world; the main building was once the summer residence of the Kan-In-No-Miya Imperial family. After a luxurious two-night stay, take the bullet train to Kyoto. Special permission will be arranged for you to visit the Imperial Palace and Katsura Imperial Villa. Touring also includes Ryoanji, Nijo-jo Castle, the Kinkakuji Golden Pavilion, and the Kiyomizu temple overlooking Kyoto. There will also be an excursion to nearby Nara. Return to Tokyo for a final night before departing. | |||
