Bangkok’s Next Great Luxury Retreat: The Siam

Now that I’m here in Bangkok, I was excited to visit The Siam Hotel, newly-opened and generating a lot of buzz on the hotel scene. Their private longtail boat took me up the Chao Phraya River to the pretty green Dusit neighborhood. There, The Siam sits along the river offering guests a serene and elegant retreat unlike anything in the city. The elegant art deco design of the public spaces and suites is done in neutral black and white, which serves as an ideal backdrop to showcase the owner’s museum-worthy personal collection of antique furniture, books, collectibles, art and vintage illustrations.
There are only suites and villas here, so guests have plenty of space to relax in the privacy of their uniquely-decorated quarters. Of course, they will want to take advantage of the spa and hammam, the city’s only hotel Muay Thai boxing ring, or a yoga class on the pier. Guests can also take away some cooking skills gleaned from a cooking class designed by the chef to match their taste buds, conducted in a traditional Thai teakwood house overlooking the river. The perfect way to end a busy day of touring? A sunset cruise, cocktails on the pier, and dinner at the jazz-age Deco Bar & Bistro.
